My name is Susan Hawthorne and I’ve always dreamed of writing. When my mother read Winnie the Pooh to me, I knew I wanted to create stories that would grab reader’s hearts and minds.
Well, life got in the way. Although I did write a few things, I didn’t share them anywhere. At least not for many years. But when I did share, I had some success!
Writing.com awarded me First Prize in their Fireside Drama Contest for a short story entitled “Grand Opening” – a detective story, and also awarded a red ribbon for “Fantastic Integration of Setting and Plot” for my short story “Little Bear” an inspirational story on overcoming fear and loss.
I have had two non-fiction articles published in The Riverside Nurse and I also won a poetry contest at 1-800-FLOWERS. I even won an “I’ve Been Published” t-shirt for my poem on the demise of the Taco Bell chihuahua.:D
My short speculative fiction story – A Step in Time – is published in an Anthology called A World of Possibility. It’s available on Smashwords for Kindle, Nook, IBooks, etc.
My Fantasy story, Bitter Prophecy, is published in an Anthology entitled A World of Worlds and is also available on Smashwords.
Another Anthology, A World of Joy, contains my short Christmas story, The Christmas Elf and can be found on Smashwords
Chicken Soup for the Soul published the story of my daughter Grace in Chicken Soup for the Soul:Touched by an Angel.
And I won a writing contest at Writing Carnival’s online magazine, Mayflies and Dragons entitled Joey and the Dragon.
I worked as a Medical Secretary for 26 years in a Virginia Medical Center. Part of that was as secretary for the Orthopedic Unit and part was as an Senior Executive Secretary in Administration. I was the assistant for the Director of the Medical/Surgical Units and the Director of Intensive Care.
I have been married for sixteen years and have two grown children, each of which have given us two beautiful grandchildren.
While I’ve always loved to read and write, I’ve only recently begun to pursue publication.
